Gusto Historico Madrecuixe was produced by maestro mezcalero Victor Ramos in the community of Miahuatlan, Oaxaca.

About this destilado de agave

Gusto Historico Madrecuixe was produced by maestro mezcalero Victor Ramos in Miahuatlan, Oaxaca. Victor single-distilled this mezcal in a copper refrescadera still. The use of Agave karwinskii, like maguey Madrecuixe, is quite common in this region of Oaxaca as there is a relative abundance of this type of agave in comparison to other species in the area.

Gusto Histórico

The brand was started by one of the co-founders of famed Oaxacan mezcaleria Mezcaloteca, and the Gusto Histórico brand features many of the same producers, with a focus on preserving traditional production methods and practices.

Lot VR.12.21.Mcx, 49% abv

Review #67: Nose has light fruits, like apples, that have been dusted in cinnamon. The palate has sweet licorice, more cinnamon covered apples, rosemary, fresh soil, root beer, burnt caramel, and leafy greens. finish has some pine and more herbs.

I’ll admit there’s more to this that I didn’t have the chance to pick apart. It kept on developing and before I knew it, my drink was gone, haha. The nose was hiding a bit for me, but the palate was bursting with flavor. Great mix of herbal flavors with just a touch of light sweetness to balance it. One of my favorite pours of one of my favorite agaves.
