Matra Joven is produced in “The Mezcal Capital of the World” of Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca
About this mezcal
Matra Joven is made with maguey Espadin (agave Angustifolia) in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. The agaves are cooked in an underground oven, crushed by tahona, and distilled in a copper alembic still.
Matra Mezcal
Mezcal Matra arose from the need to preserve the tradition of the production of mezcal. The palenque (distillery) where this mezcal is made has reportedly been operating since 1845. The Matra brand was founded in 2011.

Jim's Drams
8 reviewsNose is slightly smoky at first with a light hint of ripe fruit after breathing for a minute. Palate is very mild with a little bit of red fruit and just a whisp of smoke in the background.
Nothing spectacular, but nothing off putting. With the low proof and low price point, this would be decent for cocktails or a stepping stone from tequila to mezcal.
