About this mezcal
Matra Tobala / Espadin is produced in Santiago Matatlan. The maguey Tobala (agave potatorum) and maguey Espadin (agave angustifolia) are cooked in an underground pit oven, mashed by tahona, and double distilled in copper pot stills.
Mezcal Matra arose from the need to preserve the tradition of the production of mezcal. The palenque (distillery) where this mezcal is made has reportedly been operating since 1845. The Matra brand was founded in 2011.
