2017 edition 3.
Bottle 183/711
Very different. Another reviewer mentioned the Islay of Mezcal. I would agree, not necessarily due to smokeyness (although it is there), but more the iodine/menthal/leather note. There is some sweetness here too.
2016 Harvest. Bottle no.198/302
Mineral taste, orange tang, pepper, spices, vegetable, oily.
Long mint finish. Superb.
Bottle 889/997 from August 2015
Lime, Sugar Cane, hint of pepper on the finish. Lot a minor notes I can’t quite pick out. Maybe it’s dark chocolate or some other dark flavor. I could argue this is the most complex mezcal I have had to date. Dropped it one star because it has almost no smoke. I prefer a more smokey mezcal.
Notes of bubble gum ,taffy, marshmallows, juicy fruit, Cherry Cola. A coupe of fruit notes I can’t quite put my finger on.
My only complaint is it is very light on the smoke (I prefer more).
4.5 Stars.
My least favorite so far of the El Jolgorio range. Had an off putting mineral note as well as an off putting sour note.
What a delight, even though it is hard to find. Very fruity to me, similar to the Tobala, but packing more flavor. Citrus fruits, but also an earth bite that mix’s well. Smooth, but VERY complex.
