400 Conejos Reposado has notes of vanilla and caramel. It’s made from agave Espadin and aged in American oak barrels.
About this mezcal
400 Conejos Reposado is made with agave Espadin in Tlacolula, Oaxaca. This mezcal is made in a copper still, and it is aged for 3 months in American oak barrels before bottling. The aging of this mezcal gives it a caramel color and a sweeter, softer taste.
400 Conejos Mezcal
Mezcal 400 Conejos is named after the ancestral belief that agave spirits were occupied by 400 rabbits. Those who ingested the agave spirits would be controlled by one of the 400 rabbits, but no one ever knew which rabbit you’d get with each mezcal. Each rabbit had a different personality and way of making you think and act. Mezcal 400 Conejos’ expressions are made with agave Espadin, and their mezcal is marketed mostly for cocktails.

10 reviewsAt the Devils Bat in the building where we stayed in PV. Free because the bottle ran out. Smoky, vanilla, mildly sweet, smooth. Decent.

10 reviewsIn PV at Devils Bar. Nice Smokey smell. Slick mouthfeel with more nicely smokeyness but getting hot on the finish. Get better over the pour.

After several bottles of the regular (blue label) Joven I found this and to be honest I had higher hopes for it than it delivered…
Barely smokey, low ABV and a mild mostly tequila-isque taste that fleeted instantly which overall left me underwhelmed. Bland and slight carmel-ly, nothing memorable here.
Better than the Joven in a marg but that’s about it. I recommend skipping this offering altogether and buying the Cuishe (red label) or if you have to have something aged (and you are in MX) then pick up a bottle of the Anejo.

1 reviewThe best bang for your buck, and an extremely solid one at that. A fantastic mezcal, at an affordable price point.
It has a very pleasant, mild smokey aroma, with notes of agave and fruit.
The taste is beautiful and complex. It’s wonderfullly smokey, complemented with slight notes of caramel and citrus. There is an exquisite aftertaste, lingering in your mouth as you contemplate your next sip.
Now, some people who do not like the taste of good mezcal might criticize the lower ABZ of this bottle. But if that’s your case, you’d be better off drinking something terrible like Monte Alvin.

Bought it during a short trip to Mexico without trying before.
This is a very light and approachable mezcal. For my taste the ABZ is too low which probably makes it a good mezcal for people starting with mezcal. I use it for cocktails. Overall not a bad mezcal, but not my favorite style.
Nose: Not a lot of Smoky, lightly sweet and fruity
Taste: Flat, nothing special. A little bit citrus flavors, lite smoke and burned caramel in the end
+ Price/Value ratio is good
+ Good first mezcal
– too low alcohol content
