About this mezcal

Los Nahuales Special Edition No. 4 was distilled in March 2013 by Mezcalera Karina Abad using 100% agave Espadin. This batch was roasted over mesquite, crushed with a stone wheel, and fermented naturally with native yeasts in 800-liter wooden vats. This batch was rested for 5 years after distillation.

Los Nahuales Mezcal

Los Nahuales mezcal is distilled at the Déstileria Los Danzantes in Santiago Matatlan, the world capital of mezcal, south of Oaxaca city. The mezcals are branded as Los Nahuales in the USA due to trademark issues. Though the mezcaleros behind this mezcal have been making it for generations, the Los Danzantes brand has been around since 1997.

Lot LNE-04 ABV 49%
Another fine mezcal aged in glass. On the nose is some of that mesquite smoke, toasted caramel, and a bit of melon. The palate has a strong pineapple flavor up front, but on the back end, you get this astringency and a tartness. In-between though a huge mix of these other flavors: minerality, floral notes, and some baking spices. Great complexity and richness. I picked up my bottle for under $90, so a good deal in my book. 4.25 stars/5

Like cherry candy and allspice.. almost a less spicy hot tamale candy. Flavorful and oily on the palate. Long finish as Jonny mentioned. The price is kind of high if I recall which is something to consider. It’s enjoyable.

Aromas of cinnamon, rhubarb, cane sugar, cherries, and vanilla. The palate is full. Notes of vanilla beans, mint, chocolate, caramel, and some slight nutty flavors. Long finish. Very pleasant.
