About this mezcal

Los Nahuales Special Edition No. 2 was distilled in March 2016 with 30.2% wild maguey Cirial and 69.8% maguey Espadin. The two agave were blended during roasting over mesquite wood. This mezcal was produced in the destileria Los Danzantes in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. It was made by their mezcalera Karina Abad, who supervises all the roasting, milling, fermentation, distillation, and bottling for Los Danzantes/Los Nahuales. She also coordinates and manages the production and bottling of Alipus and Mezcalero. The Los Nahuales Special Editions are her special project.

Los Nahuales Mezcal

Los Nahuales mezcal is distilled at the Déstileria Los Danzantes in Santiago Matatlan, the world capital of mezcal, south of Oaxaca city. The mezcals are branded as Los Nahuales in the USA due to trademark issues. Though the mezcaleros behind this mezcal have been making it for generations, the Los Danzantes brand has been around since 1997.

A bit dry and closed. A nice creamy lemon note throughout and minerals in the finish. Kept hoping it would open up show more.

There are some really nice bright fruity flavors here along with clove spice. However, it’s a bit dry and there is a slight chemical note present. I enjoy the first Los Nahuales Special Edition more than this one. That said, I’m still eager to try to next special release from this mezcalera.

This smells very clean with notes of orange, apple, and lemon. It’s fruity with a bit of dry heat. It almost tastes like it’s slightly malted, which is very unique.
