About this mezcal

Miel de Tierra Joven is made with Blue Tequilana Weber agave that takes 8 years to reach maturity. This mezcal is produced more similarly to modern tequila, using a mechanical shredder, autoclave oven, and a copper pot still. There’s a faint whiff of smoke, which leads to notes of baked pineapple, raw pepper, and a light hint of vanilla.

Miel de Tierra Mezcal

Miel de Tierra means Earth’s Honey, and the name comes from the sweet, amber-flushed tree sap, which can only be found in virgin barrels made of fresh natural oak timber. Given the name, Miel de Tierra has a robust barrel-aging program and they also have several unaged releases. Their location in southern Zacatecas makes them a fairly unique brand internationally.

The mezcal for tequila lovers? Typical Tequila characters. A hint of pepper but no smoke. Unexpeted creamy and sweet on the palate. Actually a nice sip but for an artesanal mezcal mechanisation is a bit high – that’s why it got only 3 stars.

NOSE: cooked Tequilana agave, honey, some grass notes, a bit of spice and citrus aromas
PALATE: sweet spices, a touch of agave, cocoa
MOUTHFEEL: round, creamy
FINISH: medium, sweet spice notes
