About this mezcal
Nucano Tobala is made with maguey Tobala in San Dionisio Ocotepec. Tobala is much smaller than most other agave used in mezcal production, making it fairly low-yeild. It’s flavors are always complex, and Nucano uses maguey Tobala that take 12 years to reach maturity.
Nucano Mezcal
Mezcal Nucano is an artisanal mezcal produced in the region of San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. Their batches are always limited to ensure artisanal production, and they are made by a 5th generation mezcalero who helps to bring old-world mezcal production into modern times. They make an Anejo, Reposado, and several Joven mezcals that feature different silvestre agave. They are entirely Oaxacan owned and operated.

40 reviewsNJ-101-17 bottle 058. If such a thing exists, this would be a bargain Tobala. I was a little worried since this line has reposado and anejo and at around 45%, is lower ABV than other lines that only produce joven at 48% – 52%. Not a knockout in terms of complexity, but solid. There is a bit of wood and leather on the nose, the middle is smooth without any huge standout flavors and I get a bit more wood on the finish in the back of the palette. The good news is that the wood flavor is subtle; this mezcal could not carry big smoke or pine.

625 reviewsYummy mezcal and incredibly inexpensive for a Tobala. Earthy on the nose with notes of vanilla, citrus, and firewood. There is a little heat but not much bite. Give it a try. Batch NJ101-17.

682 reviewsBatch NJ101-17. Really tasty! This is very light and easy to drink while remaining full in flavor and rich. Well balanced on the nose. Aromas of burnt tangerine and a bit of ash. This mezcal has peat on the palate with notes of smoke, thick vanilla, and mesquite. This is definitely worth tasting and the bottles are cheap (relatively)! Try it.

It’s a great Tobalá mezcal, it has fruity and fresh flavor. Although the ABV is high, this mezcal is smooth.
