About this mezcal

Viejo Indecente Madrecuishe is made with wild agave Madrecuishe that takes 15 years to mature. This mezcal is earthy on the nose with notes of eucalyptus and hay. The taste is fruity and also herbal with very little smoke. Given the long time needed for these agave to mature, this mezcal really demonstrates the terroir of that specific region. Like other Viejo Indecente mezcal, this Madrecuishe carries slight notes of the ocean and brine.

Viejo Indecente Mezcal

Mezcal Viejo Indecente is produced in the small community of San Isidro Guishe, within the district of Miahuatlán, in Oaxaca. Viejo Indecente sits in a unique location. Its fields are among the driest in Oaxaca, with no more than 20 inches of rainfall per year, but the land’s proximity to the sea and exposure to the sea winds in the spring and fall contributes to Viejo Indecente’s subtle marine and salty notes. Jose Lucas, a third generation mezcalero, currently oversees the family-run operation, where he shares the knowledge gleaned from his years of experience with his eleven children. He is proud of avoiding deforestation and of his skill in blending agave species and the discipline to work the fields in an organic and natural way.

Incredible. I’ve had sips from a few different batches and the flavors and complexity seems pretty consistent across them. This is one of the most velvety mezcals I’ve ever tasted. It has this elegant silky cascade over the palate, with rich notes of fresh sweet green agave and minerals. With no smoke, you can really taste the pure agave flavors of this madrecuishe. Some of my favorite mezcals have a gritty exterior that you need to work through in order to get to the rich, more delicate notes. This is not like that. It’s a luxury, delicate experience the whole way through. Definitely one of my favorite madrecuishe mezcals out there.
