First off, I want to say this mezcal scores 4.25-4.5/5.
It took a few weeks to blow off some of the 52% alcohol.
It’s peppery, eucalyptusy and savoury. Great sipper. Almost perfect dryness level. The expression of the tepextate agave is lovely. Highly recommend trying this if you see it.

If you’re really into mezcals, this will throw you off. It’s not smokey, and almost indistinguishable from a Blanco tequila. I was very disappointed the first time I purchased this as it was the only “mezcal” carried by my liqour store at the time. Taste wise it’s not terrible, but it ain’t satisfying if you’re looking for the smoke and depth of even a simple Espadin let alone when you get further down the rabbit hole.

BTL 540/700

High minerality on the nose (almost fooled me for a madrecuixe) with green pepper, green olive and hints of spice including cinnamon. Has some florality I find as well. Very pleasant/drinkable.

Lot: SDA-182 (first two in the sequence have been rubbed off almost completely)
This isn’t my favourite Del Maguey. Alcoholic and mineral nose. Touch of spice and brine. Red pepper and underlying fruit on the palate. Some smoke. Very dry almost eraser rubbery on the finish.

Delicate nose, slight funky quality. Really velvety/creamy in the mouth. Alcohol and menthol on the finish isn’t hot but lends itself to a mild hum.

Very exciting. On the nose is wet terra cotta and slight fruitiness although quite dry. Definitely warm with the high ABV. Pleasant earthiness, think moist black earth with peppery notes. Long lingering finish that shows some minerality. Glad to have had the last dram available at my local.

I’ve had a couple different bottles that varied quite a bit. The best showing was filled with tropical fruits on the nose. Lots of passionfruit and also some banana and ripe kiwi. Good balance overall between acidity and sweetness with just of touch of smoke coming through.

Tepeztate is one of my favourites. Lovely nose of flower pollen. Tastes quite savoury, touch of olive, with a long finish.

I tried the 46% ABV version with the opaque white bottle. Still 100% Agave Espadin. restrained smoke on the nose. Capsicum dominates the mid palate. Good for mixing, decent sipper.

Very sweet, mixing mezcal.

Definitely saline with much of the classic mezcal smoke on the nose.

Edit: 2020 batch. Much better. Somewhat sweet roasted agave, green peppers, soft but warm. It’s got this saline quality still. Good texture and finish too. But this is far better than I recalled. A bit of peppermint on the end?

Very good. Notes of olive.
