About this mezcal
Cómplice de Adventura is a joven mezcal produced using 100% agave Espadin by Mezcalero Ignacio Martínez in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. After the agaves reach maturity after 8-10 years they are harvested and cooked in a river-stone pit oven. The cooked agaves are crushed by a horse-drawn tahona. After fermenting in oak wood vat, it is double distilled in copper stills. This mezcal has short but intense fruity tones and a long finish that brightens the palate.
Cómplice Mezcal
The name of Cómplice Mezcal comes from a story. One night, a man learned of the existence of a legendary mezcalero who had the gift of capturing the essence of a person in the drops of mezcal. The man was determined to find the master. After a long period of searching, he finally found the legendary teacher. After talking for a long time, the master agreed to reveal his secrets, giving rise to a mutual complicity: whenever any of the descendants of the man found the teacher, he would teach him to capture the essence of a person in a mezcal in exchange for keeping the secret within the family. This is how, generation after generation, members of the family have maintained the unique flavor and secret of the mezcal: Cómplice Mezcal.

661 reviewsOne of the better Espadin mezcals from San Dionisio. Have been using it for cocktails but it is a nice sipper. It is interesting that they have a 43% and 45% version. Even at 45% it comes off as slightly hot. That is on the initial taste and the mid-palate and finish are very fruity. COak’s note about strawberries and cream is accurate (same batch??); there is a shortcake flavor here. Lot EXJE001, bottle #96, 2020, 45% ABV.

717 reviewsLot EXJ003. From Ignacio Martínez in 2018. Smells very sweet. Aromas of sour apples, unripe bananas, strawberry, and soy sauce. The palate is crisp with notes of vanilla, cream, and yogurt. This is lightly lactic on the palate.
