About this mezcal

Cómplice de Amor is a reposado mezcal produced using 100% agave Espadin by Mezcalero Ignacio Martínez in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. After the agaves reach maturity after 8-10 years they are harvested and cooked in a river-stone pit oven. The cooked agaves are crushed by a horse-drawn tahona. After fermenting in oak wood vats, it is double distilled in copper stills. This reposado mezcal is rested for 6 months in White American Oak. This mezcal has a soft texture that covers the palate with a smooth but robust intensity.

Cómplice Mezcal

The name of Cómplice Mezcal comes from a story. One night, a man learned of the existence of a legendary mezcalero who had the gift of capturing the essence of a person in the drops of mezcal. The man was determined to find the master. After a long period of searching, he finally found the legendary teacher. After talking for a long time, the master agreed to reveal his secrets, giving rise to a mutual complicity: whenever any of the descendants of the man found the teacher, he would teach him to capture the essence of a person in a mezcal in exchange for keeping the secret within the family. This is how, generation after generation, members of the family have maintained the unique flavor and secret of the mezcal: Cómplice Mezcal.

Very sweet and honeyed. There is a note of spicy molasses. Bourbon drinkers or non spirit sippers might like this one. I’m sure it makes a nice mixer. Lot EXR003 from 2018. Ignacio Martinez.

Lot EXR003. From Ignacio Martínez from 2018. Very sweet aromas with hints of sour apples and caramel. Flavors are typical of reposados: vanilla, caramel, candied wood, and brown sugar. Tasty.
