Don Amado Tobala & Bicuishe

Don Amado Tobala & Bicuishe is produced by the renowned Arellanes family, who have been crafting mezcals since the late 1700s.

About this mezcal

Don Amado Tobala & Bicuishe is made with maguey Tobala and maguey Bicuishe in the small town of Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. This town is well-known for their clay pot distillation that has been practiced in the community for generations.

Don Amado Mezcal

Don Amado’s mezcaleros carefully handcraft all of their mezcals from 100% mature highland agave plants. After roasting the hearts of these premium agaves in wood-burning earthen pits, the plants’ treasured juices are distilled in traditional Oaxacan ceramic-and-bamboo pot stills. This unique distillation method gives Don Amado mezcals their distinctive smoky flavor and herbal bouquet, while proudly honoring a sixteenth-century production tradition native to the state of Oaxaca.

Lot 60, bottle 454.

Tropical fruits and vanilla for me on the nose and palate, some sweetness. I don’t get a lot of smoke or spice. Nice mouthfeel, viscous and soft. An elegant and very drinkable mezcal. I like it a lot. Would buy again.

Nose – Banana custard. Vanilla. Welcoming smoke to go with the sweet notes.

Palate – Smoky Pina Colada. Really nice finish – notes of a fruit cocktail cherry (I’d always save that for last), dried chili mango, Camembert, coal dust and balanced smoke/salinity. Pretty awesome stuff!

Lot 60. Bottle 356. Delightful fruity aromas: tropical mango, grilled pineapple, and papaya mixing with vanilla bean and a bit of spearmint. Balanced and full on the palate. More notes of grilled pineapple with added hints of aloe vera, mango, charcoal, and leather. This is vibrant but not necessarily bright with the notes of darker tropical fruits. Highly enjoyable.
