About this mezcal

Exiliado Espadin is produced by mezcalero Artemio García in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca. This mezcal is made with cultivated maguey Espadin (Agave angustifolia). The agaves are cooked in an underground pit over, milled by tahona, and double distilled in copper.

Exiliado Mezcal

Mezcal Exiliado is sustainably produced by Artemio García, using traditional methods he learned from his father, maestro mezcalero Margarito García, a legendary producer. The carefully selected agave hearts are wood fired over volcanic rock, stone ground, fermented in pine barrels, and distilled twice in copper at a small palenque in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca.

Lot ESJ-20-01. Pretty clean on the nose. Aromas of green olives, bell peppers, green beans, fabric softener, and carnations. The palate is bright with notes of lime, lemon zest, slate, iodine, flint, and aluminum. There are certain notes in this that seem a little sharper than I’d normally like on their own, but they seem to work here.

This has a nice minerality which I wasn’t expecting. Overall I’m not drawn towards mezcals from San Dionisio Ocotepec but this is nice. Notes of vanilla syrup, powdered sugar, and lime zest. Not sure complex but has a fresh vegetal flavor which is appealing. It is bright and would make a nice cocktail. Finish is a tad sour. Lot ESJ-20-01.
