About this destilado de agave
Mezcalosfera Bicuixe / Mexicano is produced by Felipe de Jesus Cortés, who as of the time of this distillation in 2021, was just 23 years old. He grew up in the mezcal community of rural Miahuatlán alongside his father Margarito and brother Job, and he spent formative years working for Mezcaloteca, operating their bottling facility.
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca is the exported bottling from Mezcaloteca, the famous bar in Oaxaca City that is renowned for their educational tastings. They source all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to. They put an exceptional amount of information on their labels, and all of their releases are very small batches that exhibit the most unique characteristics of mezcal. Though only a few batches have been brought into the US, there are dozens upon dozens of different varieties available for sale at their tasting room in Oaxaca City.

Nose: chalky pine, spearmint, dry soil, sawdust, definitely some parmesan
Palate & Finish: Herbal up front, peppermint, tangy lime, pine resin, chalk candy is very present especially moving into the finish like runts. Finish is herbs, star anise, cola (good call jam) mango and your mouth is almost left feeling chalky.
I have a full bottle of this and I think if I had reviewed on a sample I wouldn’t have enjoyed as much. This has definitely opened up as the bottle gets some air time and I love it. Initially it felt a little compact. It’s definitely Bicuixe dominant.

175 reviewsReview #101: On the nose I get jalapeno, mango, light cream, cotton, licorice, old wood, cola, and dried herbs. The palate has licorice, wood, lemon, cola, fresh coffee, mango skin, and rosemary.
I find this really fun with its herbal profile alongside some soft fruits and darker cola notes. I found it leans more into the bicuixe flavors I would expect. A bit thin overall but it has a good intensity and length to it.
