About this destilado de agave
NETA Espadín Capón from maestro mezcalero Hermógenes Vásquez is produced in Logoche, Miahuatlán. For batch ESPHMG2104, NETA writes:
In March 2021, Hermógenes returned to the black and red earth stretch of his “El Llano” parcel for the harvest of approximately seven tons of quiotudo Espadín that were dedicated to this batch. These piñas of capón magueyes were grown alongside multiple species of agave, and amongst the family’s annual plantings of corn, beans, and squash. The flavors and aromas present are a reflection of the convergence of the tools and the specific process, the lands and the water, and of course, the knowledge and experience of the maestro palenquero.
NETA
NETA is a colloquial word in Mexico that translates to “the real deal” or “the truth”. Since 2012, the brand has worked closely with several small, family producers and a cooperative of twelve palenqueros from the southern valleys and hills of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. The region has preserved its reputation for producing some of the finest mezcales and agave spirits anywhere in Mexico. The team behind NETA presents a carefully curated selection of extraordinary spirits that would otherwise never be found outside of its place of origin.
A note about NETA labels: The total bottle count written on the front label might be less than the total batch size. Batches may be split between Mexico, Europe, and the US; the handwritten bottle count represents the number of bottles imported into a particular country.

130 reviewsBatch: ESPHMG2104 ABV: 47.5%
Nose is so much fruit, ripe strawberries, blueberry icing, honeydew, and a bit of ripe banana. There’s a cream cheese lactic thing going on too.
Palate: continuation of palate, ripe juicy fruit, distinctly mango and berries for me. A bit of sweet and sour lemon turns to tangy bbq as it moves to a mineral back palate. Mesquite, tobacco, and burnt grass on the finish. Charred peppers. Some bitter graphite that sits for a while on a longish finish.
This is awesome, I love a good combination of fruit and minerality. Glad to have a bottle.

Disclaimer: This was tried at a tasting as a half ounce sample, so these are short notes. I’ll update if I get to try this again.
Review #54: strawberries and cream, banana, melon, fruit punch, pine, cucumber.
This is a juicy one. Good complexity overall with big bold fruit notes, a touch of cream, and a nice herbal/vegetal note underneath it. Id love a bottle of this stuff.
