This bottle of Mezcal Sacrificio joven was recommended to me by “Total Wine” and it disappoints. I just realized Total Wine buys from them directly which makes sense since they’re pushing this brand. This mezcal lacks complexity and is very thin in the mouth. I understand it’s a joven, but I was hoping it would have a richer taste. It just wasn’t there. This mezcal has a very light smoky aroma and taste, but there are much better options out there.

2019, lot MSJ 001, Espadin. Claims to be from capones. Tasted at home. Clear straightforward flavor, almost malty sweetness. Uncomplicated, fine.

Probably the only 2-star mezcal I’ve ever had. My friend bought this and wanted me to try it. Smell reminded me of wet band-aid. In the mouth it felt very thin and watery. If I tried hard enough, I could pick out some cooked agave, menthol, and smoke. Finish was mostly alcohol burn. I’m glad I tried it because it made me appreciate quality mezcal even more.

The fresh and vegetal aromas signal a tasty mezcal, unfortunately it disappoints on the palate. It is quite watery with singular muted flavor of vanilla-mint. The finish is dry. Those new to mezcal might enjoy it compared to cheap tequila because it doesn’t bite, but there are better mezcals at this low price point. Lot MSJ-008 from 2017.

Fresh citrus notes on the nose. It smells strong and full-bodied for 40% ABV. It smells great! This mezcal is hot on the palate though. It’s sharp and fiery. Lots of pepper makes some of the fruity notes seem muddy and unclear. Perhaps this would be better in a cocktail as it didn’t make for a great sipper.
