Maguey Barril is a wild agave that can take between 15 – 20 years to mature. It is a member of the agave Karwinskii family, which is more commonly represented in mezcal by the maguey Madre-Cuishe or Cuishe. Maguey Barril grows in tall barrel-like stalks that can be used as a living fence to protect other agriculture. In places like Santa Catarina Minas, there are many sub-varietals of Barril.
