About this mezcal

Cuish Belato is made with maguey Belate in San Luis Amatlan, Oaxaca. The maguey Belato also goes by the name “Maguey de Lumbre” (maguey of fire), because it turns a yellow-orange when reaching maturity.

Cuish Mezcales

Mezcales Cuish is made up of rural producers that are dedicated to the production and commercialization of traditional Oaxacan mezcal from different regions and agave varieties.

For many years, Mezcales Cuish has operated a mezcaleria in Oaxaca City a few blocks southwest of Mercado Benito Juarez. A second location was opened in Centro, Oaxaca. In 2019, the brand began exporting to the United States. Mezcal Reviews lists a mix of their exported releases along with Oaxaca releases requested by website members.

No batch info. Bottle was bought at Cuish in Oaxaca. I get lemon zest on the nose, it’s bright. Pretty complex, get dark fruit and chocolate notes. Delicious clean finish. Hard to wrap my head around, worth trying.

On first sip, this pour is clean, fruity, and full of a thirst quenching freshness that almost takes your breath away. Juicy fruit, clove, cilantro, sweet potato. Finish is more yam/sweet potato, some tangerines. Delish

I’ve lived in Mexico on and off for 8 years, and I’ve drunk a lot of mezcal This gem is in my Top 10 of those tried so far. Up there with a Coyote, for my money. Has a slightly sweet note to it, like a Madre Cuishe. Don’t miss this one.

Nose – Balance of sweet and a funky, sourness lurking in the background.

Palate – A lot of dark chocolate. The nice sour aspect from the nose is there, subtle though. Finish has a peppermint heat.

Only a 1 oz sample but Ieft me wanting more.

Not much info on the bottle.
I believe it was produced in 2015.
Total production only 60 L.

OUTSTANDING! Blew my mind when I first had it. First time having Lumbre/Belató.

NOSE:
Very medicinal on the nose. Also something like buttered popcorn and butterscotch/caramel going on as well.

PALATE
A touch of spice to begin followed by a camphor/peppermintiness but SMOOTH for 50%. Great unctuous texture as well and an extremely long finish.
In my opinion an absolute steal for the price (about $100CAD for 750 mL!)
