Cuish Tobala comes from the famed Cuish mezcaleria in Oaxaca City. They have several different releases of Tobala from different producers.
About this mezcal
Cuish Tobala is produced by several different mezcaleros from different regions of Oaxaca. Check your bottle for specific details. One of the more common Cuish Tobala releases is made by Berta Vasquez in San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca. Berta is well-known throughout the region for her distilling. She mills her agave by horse-drawn tahona, ferments using open-air yeasts in wooden tanks, and double distills in copper alambique stills.
Cuish Mezcales
Mezcales Cuish is made up of rural producers that are dedicated to the production and commercialization of traditional Oaxacan mezcal from different regions and agave varieties.
For many years, Mezcales Cuish has operated a mezcaleria in Oaxaca City a few blocks southwest of Mercado Benito Juarez. A second location was opened in Centro, Oaxaca. In 2019, the brand began exporting to the United States. Mezcal Reviews lists a mix of their exported releases along with Oaxaca releases requested by website members.

112 reviewsPicked up a bottle in CDMX and pleased to find it was made by Berta. The nose is mineral and full of dry desert and stone fragrances.
The palate is sweet but not as fruity as other tobalas I’ve had, very much mineral and sandstone, delicious but not super complex. A great sipper.

5 reviewsTobalá is normally one of my favorites, but this one doesn’t make the cut for me. The Tepextate and Belató are far superior.

Palate – Interesting! The typical tobala sweetness is there but balanced well with the rest of the flavors. Nice minerality in the finish. Only knock is a tad too much ethanol popping up in the finish.
