About this mezcal
La Medida Madrecuishe is made with cultivated maguey Madrecuishe. Though this agave is not typically cultivated for mezcal production, La Medida reports that it adapts well to cultivation and can withstand moderate droughts and frosts. It’s commonly used as a living fence around property or other crops. This agave is grown at 1,500 meters above sea level. It’s traditionally produced in San Luis Amatlán, Miahuatlán, Oaxaca.
La Medida Mezcal
Mezcales La Medida brings together more than 46 Oaxacan producers. Their mezcal is made in small palenques with over 450 years of tradition and culture. The brand is run by Julián Vidal Gómez Rodríguez, who began working with mezcal over 40 years ago. Throughout his career he has worked with brands like Monte Alban, Benevá, and Del Maguey. He focuses heavily on mezcal’s mysticism and the traditional production methods that have been used for hundreds of years. Some of their mezcal is certified, while other releases go by “aguardiente de agave.” Each batch is different. Check your bottles for details.

Mezcalero: Antonio Cortes Aragon
Batch: MIA M1903-US
nose: watermelon, florals, persimmon, harissa, turnips, a bit buttery, pears,
palate: finishes earthy, intensely floral, vanilla, orange liqueur
very solid perhaps a bit overwhelmingly floral for me. really lovely juicy thick mouthfeel. I like this quite a lot but it leans pretty heavily in that direction. 7+/10

144 reviewsNose of peanut skins, loft and sawdust, perhaps Granny Smith apple peels. Very woody and earthy, very karwinskii with good minerality and viscosity, flavours of macadamia, oaky notes, hot slate, dried dates except that there is not the yeasty sweetness, good baked agave baseline. I hardly get any of the fruit and berry notes others do though, so that must be the batch (the indication of which I missed, ordering this from a busy bar).
Solid, and recommended.

Smooth to drink with sugar and earthy grass notes. Not bad.

634 reviewsLot MIA-M1903US/2019/46.35%. Aromas of fresh flowers, strawberries, cherries, granite, flint, and and red raspberry. The palate equally as fruity with notes of cherries, strawberries, sugar cane, and sharp fresh spearmint. This is nice.

612 reviewsClean, sweet cream aromas with some fruitcake. On the palate, big mineral notes along with caramel, fresh mint, a touch of clove, and cedar. It coats the mouth a bit and lingers in a good way. Probably the best La Medida out of the ones that I’ve tried. Batch MIA-M1903US, distilled in 2019, 46.35%.

Nose: That gorgeous candied cherry, vanilla, peanuts, minerality. Dragonfruit comes to, with other strawberry and pink fruits. Candied!
Palate: Watery entry, but nice agave flavor, complex, candied fruits, pops of citrus, cinnamon, floral, nice long finish.
Star of the show, and totally my style as well. Give me more proof :P.

Clay, pepper, rising sourdough, pepper and some cotton candy. The meaty savory note has sort of packed up and moved on, giving way to sweet, funky berry and clay notes. Pepper with a hint of cocktail onion.
This is really great also. This may be my favorite Madrecuishe (so far) and it’s no doubt the quality of the makers work here. Very impressed, as this is hitting all the right notes for me.

398 reviewsMIA-B1902. Every once in a while I taste a Mezcal that’s really nutty, I like this flavor a lot. This Madrecuixe had flavors of crushed peanuts, salted caramel and spearmint. Yum!
Tried another batch at a bar in Puerto Vallarta and it was also fantastic!! Like blackberry pie covered in butterscotch and salted caramel!
