About this mezcal

Papadiablo Arroqueno also goes by the name Papadiablo Magico. It’s made by mezcalero Don Beto in Miahuatlan. Don Beto also makes an Arroqueno mezcal for Marca Negra. One can only assume that these are different batches, but they are very similar in flavor and character. If you like one, you’ll likely enjoy the other. This mezcal is made in very small batches due to limited availability of the agave. It has distinct notes of pepper and tropical fruits.

Papadiablo Mezcal

Among the many things that make this mezcal unique, the most important are the hands that craft it. Hands that have accumulated a wealth of knowledge passed through generations, understanding how to cultivate quality in every batch. Papadiablo mezcal uses only organic materials, no chemicals, and no modified yeasts. They also distill to proof, not adding any water to adjust alcohol volume. The spirit that is bottled is just as it came out of the still. The ABV may vary by batch. Check your bottle for details.

Batch : PPD – 01AR
Nose : Hubbabubba gum, sweatbread, a little mint, soy sauce, minerals and dusty.
Taste : brown sugar dominates, something chocolatey, vegetal and very balanced.
Finish : everything dances into a slow standstill. Slightly smokey.
Probably the best arroqueno that l ever had!

I was so pumped when a friend was able to get this for me. Pretty rare stuff.

Lote: PPD010
Botella: SVV1676

Wow. When I opened this up the smell was absolutely insane! Like old fashioned pink bubblegum and wintergreen. Vanilla, light mesquite and tropical notes as well.
Flavour is explosive. It’s got a rich texture and is super concentrated. Aromas follow through on the tongue. Some fire and tingle on the finish. l am still trying to sort it all out. Right now I would say 4.5+ stars so I just said give it a 5 as I can see this evolving over time. If you see this, GRAB IT. One of the best I have ever had.

PPD-01AR 47.5% bottle 239. Magico indeed! The mouth feel on this is incredible it just rolls off the center and hits the sides of the palate in well, a magical way. Super smooth, great nose, not bitter, not sweet. I tasted this with a friend against the Special Edition 2016 Alipus Arroqueno by Tio Leonardo and the La Medida Arroqueno I’ve previously reviewed. At least the Alipus was in the ball park, but the La Medida was a distant third. Don Beto rocks! I looked long and hard for this bottle in Oaxaca and there was only one, so if you see it, don’t pass it up.
