On the nose vanilla and, surprise, honey. Reminds me to bourbon on the nose.
On the palate smooth and sweet. Warm honey aftertaste. I don’t get any fruit. Not bad but not my favorite type of mezcal.
Minerals and too much petrol on the nose. The petroly impression on the nose stays on the palate. Smoke starts on the pellet not a lot on the nose. Taste is flat, patrol stays. Not my favorite, but ok.
Lot: Mayo 2905/2
I expected less after the previous reviews. Mild smoke on the nose, fresh a little bit vanilla. On the palate sweet agave and get vanilla. Nice sip, not complex.
Lot: AE-006 Bottle 594/117
Nose: Mild and nice to the nose. Agave and sweetness, not a lot of smoke.
Taste: Minerally in the beginning, a nice spice goes all the way, complex, green in the end. A surprising composition, but I really like it. Very nice, smooth mouth feel which lasts a long time.
Edition: 17 – Harvest: 2016 – Bottle 395/980
Very good! On the first poor after opening the bottle I had pine on the nose with sweetness, a little smoke and tropical fruit. When you let it sit in the glas for some time the pine goes away.
Smooth mouths feel with great taste and finish.
Spicy and complex. Less sweetness than expected. Besides the tropical fruits some green.
Best Tobala I had so far!
It needs a warning „Do not sip“.
It has a little bit of smoke, goes ok in cocktails.
Lot Nr. 012918 – Bottle 647/1180
Very nice and surprising mezcal. Good sip and very well balanced. Would recommend it to anyone starting sipping mezcal. If you look for a lot of smoke in your mezcal, not the right one.
Nose: First impression is very sweet, roasted. Allmost no smoke on the nose. A little bit of agave and green with juniper. Very fresh and alive.
Palate: Sweet fresh citrus all the way, smoke comes in a second wave. Very well balanced and silky.
+ Easy sipping, will satisfy most mezcal drinkers
– Nothing extraordinary, will still satisfy most mezcal drinkers
Lot Nr. 003-19 MA
Bought it during a short trip to Mexico without trying before.
This is a very light and approachable mezcal. For my taste the ABZ is too low which probably makes it a good mezcal for people starting with mezcal. I use it for cocktails. Overall not a bad mezcal, but not my favorite style.
Nose: Not a lot of Smoky, lightly sweet and fruity
Taste: Flat, nothing special. A little bit citrus flavors, lite smoke and burned caramel in the end
+ Price/Value ratio is good
+ Good first mezcal
– too low alcohol content
