Palenqueros Espadin from San Luis del Rio is bright with fresh tasting notes of green fruit, lime, and avocado leaves.
About this mezcal
Palenqueros Espadin is made by maestro mezcalero Omar Nolasco in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca. Omar represents the bright future of mezcal. He’s a young fifth generation distiller who works to preserve the traditional methods of mezcal production.
Palenqueros Mezcal
Palenqueros Mezcal is marketed as Single Palenque mezcal, meaning that it’s produced by a single mezcalero at a single distilling facility. The brand is a collaboration project between Tradición Chagoya, which owns and operates other mezcal brands like Donaji and Los Cuerudos, and Velier Italia, an Italian spirits company.

5 reviewsMezcal Review #1 – Palenqueros Omar Nolasco
Espadin – 55 % ABV
Notes: Distilled in wood-fired copper in San Luis del Rio, Batch ANES01
Nose: Smokey and lactic, fairly classic mezcal nose. Some citrus.
Palate: Light candy sweetness (smarties), creamy texture. Pleasant but not hugely complex.
Finish: Orange peel and star anise. Faint butterscotch and returning wood smoke.
Comments: Clean, competently made spirit but too light on the nose and palate for my taste. Bordering on agave vodka at times.
Score: 5/10 (t8ke scale)

666 reviewsFirst mezcal sip of the day at the crack of 5pm. It was nice and then I noticed it was 55% ABV. Definitely not as powerful as one would expect. Bright green lime rind and red Twizzlers. Dry finish. Need to revisit this one. Batch ANES01.

729 reviewsBatch ANES01. 1,474 bottles. Smells strong but not overwhelmingly so. Notes of lime and lemon peel on the nose. Charred tastes on the palate. Burnt marshmallows, ash, charcoal, and burning logs. There’s a general charred and burning flavor to this. It’s surprisingly not hot though, not much alcohol taste, considering it’s 55%. Goes down dangerously easy. Solid Espadin.
