There are two batches of this out, 2021 and 2017. The 2017 will be pricier.
Batch 2017. This might be the best Aguerrido offering. This has nuance that’s hard to describe, it changes in the bottle. I get creamy coffee notes on the nose and palate. This is also green and tropical. I get some anise flavors as well.Batch 2021 This is a surface level version of the 2017. It has a shorter finish and the flavors aren’t as pronounced but it’s still delicious.
2021 batch. Been a huge fan of Antonio’s juice, he makes consistent, delicious mezcal, bombed with flavor. This one isn’t too far from his espadin in terms of flavor. I get green apples, hazelnut, and coffee on the palate. It is soft and has delicious dark flavors.
2021 batch. This is one of the more inexpensive Aguerrido bottles, definitely worth picking up if you want to get into cupreata. The nose is bright and fruity. On the palate I get pineapple and lime. The finish isn’t as robust and long as some of the other Aguerridos.
Batch from 2021. Vincencio is the grandson of the late Ciro Barranca, I’ve loved Ciro’s cupreata so I was excited to try this. On the nose I get sweet baked goods. The palate is green, candied caramel apples with chocolate notes. It’s soft and approachable with a long finish. One of the best from the Aguerrido line.
Batch from 2015. This is the highest-priced Aguerrido and one of their bests. On the nose get grape and flan. The taste to me is explosive grape and cherry candy flavor. The finish is long and complex, the resting in glass for years makes this soft on the palate. This isn’t what your typical cupreata taste like. Definitely give it a try.
One of the finest espadins I’ve tasted. This is bold and delicious. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Anything from the Sonido family is must try.
DTRMCO01. Alamo City Liquor batch pick. This tastes like all things purple, has a candied grape quality. Rich, deep, juicy with fantastic finish. Love this…Trying it more, it could be my favorite RM ever.
2022. 350 liters. 46%. Smells like a fruit stand and wet asphalt after it rains. It’s on the lighter side, feels really fresh. Taste like pink starbursts. Not as robust as Cupreata from Guerrero but quite enjoyable.
Lots EG003. Bottle 530/665. Bought this because I was so impressed with Everardo’s (RIP) madrecuixe. It smells like an green apple orchard. It’s a very pleasant, apple, and vanilla on the palate. Solid tobala.
2022. 48.5%. No lot. Alineño y cimarròn ensemble. Santos Juarez. This isn’t what you’d expect raicilla to taste like, gives me espadin vibes. The nose has cinnamon sticks. The palate is like a frosted cinnamon roll. I liked it enough to buy a bottle from the Mezonte tasting room.
Really tasty sotol, a great example of the expression. Fresh mint leaves, grassy and vegetal.
Producer Felipe Hernandez. Verano 2021. Tried a lineup of Memorable and was pleasantly surprised with all of them. Worth trying! This was a stand out. Miahuatlan bomb! Minerals, fresh water and key lime pie.
Lot AS007. 32/132. This bottle is absolutely worth your money. Candied green apple, caramel and chocolate. Tasty long finish. Try bottles with the Sonido family name on them.
Red apple notes on the nose. Big apple cider and donuts on the palate. Great mezcal to sip in the fall.
This is the kind of mezcal that perks you up. Nose of butterscotch and citrus. On the palate it’s got melon, grape and anise. It’s syrupy with a semi spicy finish. Pretty unique.
MGG-13C. Love the nose on this. Like a bouquet of flowers really clean. Taste like banana, spice, raspberry. This has a bite, spicy finish.
Lot ACR046. Definitely clay pot. Taste like a frosted cinnamon bun with a spicy finish. Reminds me of espadin a bit. Excited to try any coyote.
Lot MGG-12T. Tried this blind, was a little surprised it was a tepeztate. It’s pretty soft for a tepe. Has minerality, some strawberry and green beans. Enjoyable overall.
The nose transports me to a palenque, hay, animals and fruit. One of the best pechugas I’ve had recently. The palate has a nut quality, definitely get the mole notes! Rich and tasty.
No batch info. Bottle was bought at Cuish in Oaxaca. I get lemon zest on the nose, it’s bright. Pretty complex, get dark fruit and chocolate notes. Delicious clean finish. Hard to wrap my head around, worth trying.
