Batch DTRMTR-02 5/60. Exclusive for Alamo City Liquors. Fresh peanuts on the nose. Delicious! Not too hot for 53.4%. Notes of peanuts, mint, chocolate and clay.
Getting a lot of minty notes from the El Rey Zapotecos that I’ve tried, as I do on this one. This is on the softer side with some green beans, coffee and fresh pepper, has a nice finish.
Nose is floral and green. Taste is minty, piney with a peppery finish.
Was plesantly suprised with this one. Nose has sweet mint. On the palate I definitely get the Christmas cookies, chocolate, mint and pine.
The standout of agave mixtape vol 8. On the nose and palate, I get dark fruit, coffee, and lactic notes. The espadin provides a sweetness to the dry characteristics of bicuixe.
Batch SNALB03-21. Alberto consistently makes great mezcal. I’ve luckily been able to hike with him to see his majestic Sierra Negra plants. This batch isn’t quite as good as the others I’ve tried in the past. The finish isn’t quite as long and great as the others. Snickerdoodle cookies, black pepper and green beans.
Enjoyable Miahuatlan ensamble. Lots of agave in here, hard to pick them each out, definitely seems Karwinski forward. Nose has fresh rain water and fresh greens. On the palate, I get cherry and minerals. It’s delicate and has a nice long clean finish.
This has grown on me since I opened it. It seems to taste different each time I try it. I get some chemicals on the nose, which I get on some San Balthazar Mezcals. On the palate I get some coconut and milk chocolate. It has a nice finish.
Batch 0520ER from May 2020. Has a lot of bubblegum. Vegetal, minerals. Agree with Tyler about al dente flavor. Nice expression from Mihuatlan
0414TG. Jumping down the rabbit hole into Guerrero papalotes started with this one after reading other reviews. The notes on this have been well documented, nose has strawberry frosting. On the palate I get fresh berries and chocolate. It really is complex and you will pick up different flavors with each revisit.
Batch 0520RC. Not as good as Refugio’s papalote en vidrio but still really good and worth trying. Bright mezcal with chocolate/ coffee notes.
DARME-03 Old Town tequila Batch. Becuela aka Tepextate has recently been elusive from Real Minero. This stands up to Lalocura’s clay pot Tepextate. Bright, green and not too hot. Superior to the 02 batch.
Reina Tepextate is always legendary. This is a great batch. Nose is earthy, you really get her land. This is grassy, sweet onion, tobacco and complex.
E-17-MXC-19. 53% mexicano 47% cuishe. Whenever I see an Emigdio ensemble I’m interested, they vary so much. This isn’t mind blowing but very enjoyable. Has those chocolate notes from mexicano and vegetal green notes from cuishe.
Bottle 5/60. Batch AEMM-01. This is awesome. Fresh rain Water! Salt water taffy. Lucious. One of my favorite recent offerings from RM.
Delicious espadin. So full of flavor. Reminds me of birthday cake.
Lot 3. Masparillo I believe. Maybe not as great as the other batches. The nose is inviting, it’s funky and complex. It has a long finish, lemon rinds and lemon grass. Not something I’d reach for again and again.
Tangy espadin. I get those slightly sour fruit notes Jonny got. It’s light with little heat. Enjoyable.
This had me at mal bien papalote. Been riding the wave of Guerrero papalotes recently and was happy to see this in agave mixtape vol. 6. It has the nice coffee and toffee notes I get from other bottles from Guerrero.
Batch: 0319ER. This one came into it’s own as the juice in the bottle got lower. It’s vegetal and bright. Tastes of dark chocolate, bubblegum strawberries. Fun blend of agaves.
