Origen Raiz Cenizo

Jul 12, 2023

Lot 40CDIG11

Review #16: Hit of bubblegum from the start and packed with tons of fruits. Melons, strawberry, lemon oils, mango, and pineapple. Underneath it all is vegetal and floral with touch of cream. This is an awesome cenizo and really solidified how much I love a fruity expression from it.

Origen Raiz Madrecuishe

Jul 12, 2023

Lot VC02MC01, edition 2, 2019 production date, 48% abv

Review #15: earthy, leather and some wood are the main focus with, a bit of lime, milk chocolate, baking spices. It’s got a lot of good flavor but a bit underwhelming and nothing in particular is sticking out. My least favorite of the 3 origen raiz I’ve tried

Origen Raiz Espadin Chacaleño

Jul 12, 2023

Lot CA07C08, 50.1% abv

Review #14: lots of imagery of rain. Petrichor, wet leaves, wet rocks, being in a forest, vegetal. Has this overall mustiness to it. Smell is reminiscent of being on a boat. It does turn sweet mid palate with fresh light fruits like apple. Then a smoked woody finish. This is very unique and while it’s not something I would normally reach for, it has something special with that rain smell that ties everything together

Vago Tobala – Emigdio Jarquin Ramirez

Jul 12, 2023

Lot E-18-TOB-21, 51.6% abv

Review #12: Very pretty nose and palate. Fresh apples and florals like youre in a garden. Some sweet and light vanilla frosting, then touches a bit of herbs and mild earthiness. Very clean and fresh. This is an excellent tobala

Vago Madre Cuixe – Emigdio Jarquin Ramirez

Jul 12, 2023

Lot E-10-MC-20, April 2020 production date, 50.5% abv

Review #12: Full of bitter dark chocolate and leather, there’s some minerality and earthiness, then mid palate there’s some vegetal jalapeños and a grassiness. Lots of strong and bold flavors on this that really pops

Vago Mexicano – Hijos de Aquilino Garcia

Jul 12, 2023

Didn’t get the batch number, 50.2% abv

Review #11: vegetal forward with green pepper and jalapeño, minerals and clay, then as it opens up some sweet corn and melon notes come out. It took some time for more flavors to come but it has decent complexity

Derrumbes Durango

Jul 10, 2023

Lote 14, 06/22 production date, bottle 1137/1500, 45.6% abv

Review #10: Leather, vanilla, caramel, sweet earth. It has a sweet fruit mid-palate like melons and strawberry, but finishes back to that earth. Very enjoyable and complex. Among my favorites from derrumbes

Derrumbes Oaxaca

Jul 10, 2023

Lote 12, 02/22 production date, bottle 4961/5800, 46.4% abv

Review #9: sweet and bright, raspberry, lemon and lime juice, minerals, ashy smoke. A bit brash overall. It has a bit too much heat on it for the abv. Also a light mouthfeel. My least favorite among the derrumbes lineup

Derrumbes Guerrero

Jul 10, 2023

Lote 1, 05/21 production date, bottle 50/800, 49.1% abv

Review #8: quality milk chocolate, lightly funky, cream cheese, soft ripe melons. Very in line with Jonny and James’ reviews, it’s savory with a smooth fruit undertone. It is very well rounded and maybe my favorite from derrumbes.

Derrumbes Michoacan

Jul 10, 2023

Didn’t get the batch number on this one. 44.9% abv.

Review #7: this is very bright on the nose and palate. Sweet and delicate, fruits like raspberry and cherry, decent acidity overall and minerality on the finish. It’s pretty good but it’s lacking. Very thin mouthfeel and not strong on the flavors. If this was more flavorful it’d easily get another point.

La Venenosa Raicilla Sierra del Tigre

Jul 10, 2023

Lot 37, 05/22 production date, bottle 184-350, 43.2% abv

Review #6: moderate creaminess. Big burst of orange, reminding me of an orange creamsicle, a bit of fruity berries, and there’s some bell peppers with cheese around it. Lots of flavor on this for the low abv. This tasted like a dessert pour for me. Im a big fan, and didn’t get blue cheese on this newer batch like others mentioned on older ones (although i do like blue cheese). This is top tier

La Venenosa Raicilla Costa

Jul 10, 2023

Lot 39, 06/22 production date, bottle 131-480, 47.1% abv

Review #5: lots of wood and smoke on the nose and palate. Dry soil with a lot of herbs around it. I wasn’t a big fan of this one, might check it out another time. It was very drying on the palate and i didnt find a lot of complexity.

La Venenosa Raicilla Sierra

Jul 10, 2023

Lot 37, 04/21 production date, bottle 286-1430, 40.3% abv

Review #4: This one is hard for me to pick apart. It has a soft creaminess to it, some fruits like a blend of melons, lime zest, a bit of minerality on the finish, and strange chemicals. I really enjoy this one for how strange it is in an enticing way

Rey Campero Tepextate

Jul 10, 2023

Lote dso17-T, june 2022 production date, glass rested 5 months, 48.4% abv

Review #3: Jalapeño peppers and earth are dominant, there’s some roasted herbs and vegetables, with a bit of funky cream cheese to round it out. Excellent Tepeztate

Rey Campero Madre-Cuishe

Jul 10, 2023

Ds017-tac, april 2022 production date, glass rested 4 months, 49.2% abv
Review #2: Sweet florals up front, milk chocolate, and leather. A well put together madrecuishe

Rey Campero Jabali

Jul 10, 2023

Batch dso32-? Nov. 2022 production date, glass rested 2 months, 48.5% abv
Review #1: Citrus forward with lime, moderately mineraly with a soft cheese. Overall it was decent but nothing special for me
