Edition 01. Bottle 67/400. Aromas of chocolate, nibs, light perfume. Tastes of peanut brittle, dried plantains, dark cherries. This good, not great. Very thin and not super complex. I like it alright but there are mezcals at 1/4 the price that I enjoy just as much.
April 2016. Bottle 006/132. Serious bicuixe here! Aromas of vanilla beans, sour apples, dry grass, and macadamia. Tastes like skittles, sugary fruit, and Sweet Tarts. Medium body. This is a total bombshell. Absolute fire. Awesome. Tasted this alongside 4 other allstar bicuixes, and this stood above them all.
Lot MXTC06-01. This really opens up! It’s changed quite a bit since opening the bottle, adding depth the longer it sits. This karwinskii is super interesting. It’s like meeting up with an old friend, who you used to do a lot of crazy stuff with as a kid, and finding that the friend is still doing all the same crazy stuff from your past. Lots of sour citrus on the nose, with aromas of limes, lemons, and pickled jalapeno. The palate is well settled with a nice leathery, campfire pocket holding rougher notes of fresh green peppers, cream, key lime, and tobacco.
Lot 3. Aromas of pink lemonade, peach, and lime. The Palate is big, rich, and full. Reminiscent of post-modern design, lemonade, and Cuban cigars.
Lot 1. Smells incredible! Aromas of strawberry lemonade. Sour with some additional hints of cotton candy on the nose. The palate is almost identical to the nose. Tastes like pink lemonade and Popsicle, like a very high ABV shandy. Very big and bright. I dig it.
Lot 2. New car smell. Freshly produced interior building materials on the nose. Tastes like blueberries, papaya, and grilled pineapple. Very fruity on the palate in comparison to the nose. I’m super into this batch. If only tequila could taste like this!
Lot 2 from Sept 2016. Bottle 253/1466. Smells piney with hints of vanilla, spearmint, and menthol. Palate is balanced and full. Hints cinnamon and Christmas (candy canes, mistletoe, etc…). Some mint on the palate as well, mostly spearmint and a bit of menthol.
Heavy clay. Funky aromas. Sour apples and sharp cheddar cheese on the nose. Super viscous and well rounded. This is big and bright. Very cheesy, buttery, and thick. Tried this from a pre-release bottle that didn’t have a batch number, but believe it would have been first batch into the US.
Batch RATZ01. 420 bottles. Has anyone ever made a bad Tobaziche in Minas?! It doesn’t seems like it. This is very nice. Vegetative, herbatious aromas. Nose has hints of fresh peas, dried spearmint, and cooked cabbage. The palate is balanced. Notes of burnt toast, chipotle, and smoked meats. Leathery finish
Batch VGEN01. 1,102 bottles. Bubblegum on the nose! Lots of juicy bubble gum an dcandy aromas aromas. Palate has notes of cotton, new t-shirts, fresh laundry, dryer sheets, and flan. Amazing! Don Valente doesn’t let down on this one. Big and full.
Batch ANES01. 1,474 bottles. Smells strong but not overwhelmingly so. Notes of lime and lemon peel on the nose. Charred tastes on the palate. Burnt marshmallows, ash, charcoal, and burning logs. There’s a general charred and burning flavor to this. It’s surprisingly not hot though, not much alcohol taste, considering it’s 55%. Goes down dangerously easy. Solid Espadin.
Batch BCTO01. 1,159 bottles. Aromas of light flowers, vanilla pudding, and cleaning agents. Delicate palate but with a sharp edge. Notes of candied vegetables and a bit of burnt cream. Balanced but with a random sharpness here and there.
Batch 01-18. Bottle 36/355. Smells slightly sweet with notes of pomegranate, rich cream, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice. Palate is full and round. Less sweet on the palate than nose. Notes of light soft cheeses, freshly churned butter, fresh green collards, and cinnamon. Reminiscent of something my grandmother would bake in the oven, but also of the old hard candy she would leave out in her living room. Great Espadin!
Batch 00EN01. 1,305 bottles. Floral aromas and masculine fragrant: notes of aftershave, beach rum, musk, and a bit of lavender. Balanced across the palate with some nice caramelized, toasted notes: roasted cashews, burnt toast, freshly brewed coffee, and fennel. More notes of honey and berries. There’s a note of green pepper that sticks out on the finish. Really nice. Great price too.
516 bottles. Batch 22082016. Leathery aromas! Palate is thick and syrupy in a really good way. Tastes of old dusty books, tanned and worn leather, and a bit of spearmint. Highly delicate.
Green aromas: Green peppers, bell peppers, jalapenos, and sweet pepper. Palate is a bit of a left turn but not drastic. Still lots of pepper but also some burnt ash, over-roasted peppers, and black pepper. There’s some notes of green freeze pops, with a bit of lime and citrus.
Aromas of sweet corn, turnips, and strong grape soda. Palate has more grape soda, menthol, and lots fruit flavor candy canes. Very fruity and sweet forward.
Aromas of vanilla and green vegetables, very mellow nose. Wow! The palate is subtle but full and rich. Notes of red grapes, yogurt covered raisins, eggplant, and white Airheads. This is very good.
Smells incredible. Aromas of green peppers, fresh broccoli, potatoes and other root vegetables, my grandmother’s books, and lavender. The palate is soft with notes of sugar cookies, pumpkin bread, lots of green, fresh green vegetables. This has some heat but very nice.
Tasted this just 16 days off the still.. Aromas of butter, cream, cantaloupe, pumpkin seeds, brie cheese, and pickled carrots. A lot for the nose to decipher! The palate is equally complex but very concise and well-blended. The front of the palate is hit with strong flavors of a big juicy cheeseburger fresh off the grill, leading to more candied notes of orange juice, pear, and plums. Medium to long finish. This is a pure delight! Incredibly complex yet well established considering how recently this was made.
