First experience trying a Tobala but compared to everything I’ve tried, this is incredibly unique. On the nose I get pear, vegetal and maybe lemon. Subtle smoke on the palate. Noticeable burn but very short finish.
Lot: 34/01B
Great for the price but not overly complex to me. I get citrus and vanilla on the nose with quite a lot of pepper on the palate.
Extremely complex. Different notes with every sip, mint, peppers, fruit, vanilla, maybe some florals. And the best finish of any mezcal I’ve had, that lingers with unique notes of its own.
Really enjoyable and approachable. No smoke on the nose but a subtle ashy taste. A lot of lime and citrus on the nose and palate and very smooth.
Very unique smell and flavor that didn’t really work for me but others I tried it with loved it. A sweet but also earthy smell like a vanilla cigar bar. A lot of complexity on the palate. I get predominately mango and wood with a strong bite and spicey finish.

Beautiful bottle at a very approachable price point. Kind of a syrupy caramel scent with a very smokey, earthy taste. Not too complex but could be great in mixed drinks if you’re looking for a smokey taste to come through. Because of the bottle and price point, this is probably going to be a staple on my shelf.
Had the pleasure of trying this mezcal at Claro, the owner’s restaurant in Brooklyn. Hints of banana on the nose and in the taste plus agave and sugar. Just a hint of smoke. One of the best I’ve had.
Lot: MQ8195
Has a very earthy aroma with hints of vegetables and cut grass. Not too smokey but definitely there. Two major flavors I get are pepper and citrus. Its not overly complex but for the price its a great introductory mezcal.

Very good, especially for the price. Hints of rubber, vanilla and fruit. A little less smokey than I’d like, but still noticeable. Excellent for mixed drinks.

I didn’t mind the smell, nothing too insulting. The taste though, is not good at all. It did provide some perspective on just how much better every other mezcal I’ve tried has been. Not even worth it for cocktails.
Lot: YJ28-21
Decent mezcal at a very reasonable price. Pleasant but indistinct smell. Taste is definitely dominated by the high ABV but is still surprisingly smooth.
Lot: MLJ-0322-L20
Picked it up for mixed drinks because it was the cheapest thing and will only be using it for mixed drinks. Not a lot of complexity with a sharp aftertaste like rubbing alcohol.
Lot: MR-026
Great, cheap option for a sipping mezcal. A noticeable rubbery scent and very nice spicy pepper taste. Very little smokiness and comes off closer to a tequila in most cocktails. Definitely a safe bet for someone just getting into mezcal.
