NETA Espadín – Delfino & Sozimo Jarquín

May 23, 2021

Yep this is for sure cranberry muffins but I also get orange rind added to them. There is also a creamy lemon meringue on the nose as well. The palate follows suit which is nice with a rich cranberry orange pastry followed by a hit of margarita mix. The finish on this one has a subtle caramel sweetness with very earthy and clay overtones.

Mal Bien Espadin – Antonio Sonido

The green onion / scallion come through heavy on the nose. I am also getting un-ripened avocado and heavy potassium on the nose. The palate initially was a meaty vegetable. I also got a sweetness that was hard to discern between a strawberry cream cupcake and caramel. The finish is nice and oily with a return to the onion-y vegetal intro. It also has nice clay pot and hay notes on the end. Quite good. Loving the black label.

This is a great mixer mezcal when you are looking for a tamed smoke. There is nothing super exciting here but it also is not bad at all.

Nose: earthy, cabbage

Palate: barnyard, hay, medium mouthfeel, soil, earthy

Finish: cedar

It just falls a little flat but it is not meant to be a heavy hitter.

This mezcal just feels so fresh. It puts me back to going to fiesta in Houston and getting that Mexican street corn whiff as I walk into the fruit section of the supermarket.

Nose: smoked citrus, underripe corn on the cob, creamed corn

Palate: sweet corn, medicinal, mango, tropical fruit, dark chocolate, oily mouthfeel, creamy

Finish: burnt veggies, wet clay, wet wood, bbq
