Had a pour at Tinie’s in Fort Worth, didn’t get lot. Freaking awesome, explosive flavor. Well balanced between vegetal, savory and smokey notes. Sharp. I need a bottle of this in my collection.
Lot D5014-T July 2021 Bottle 739/851
Very vegetal, green vegetables such as asparagus, bell pepper and onion. A bit challenging for me. I won’t write off Tepextate yet, but this may be an acquired taste.
Lot CHI-215, 2022/05/17
Really awesome mezcal, the hype is real. Complex flavor, oily mouth feel, agave, pineapple. More fruit forward in aroma than smokey. A mainstay.
Batch: 1120FRM
I really liked this one. I feel like there are different flavors than a lot of other Espadin. More on the vegetal than fruity or sweet side, I mostly got fresh asparagus, some funkiness and a little vanilla. Sad when this one was finished.
DS010-M
This is more of a middle of the road mezcal. It’s got smoke and fresh tennis balls. Hot and spicy on the finish. It’s not complex to me, but not boring either.

I sipped this off and on for 10 months, didn’t really care for it. There was some acidity or lime zest up front, smoke, some funkiness ala yogurt or cheese. Generally just not a fan. However, the last quarter of the bottle I was really enjoying, especially paired with some mandarin slices. Perhaps my palet changed, I don’t know, but I would give another Lot a chance.
Batch: YJ08-19 Bottle 1249/2880
Orange peel, clove and all spice on the nose. Taste is mint on top of blue Weber agave. It’s alright. The flavors don’t compliment each other enough.
Batch SOJCO3-21, Bottle 151/360
Quality checks out. Ashy aroma, maybe a little banana. Herbaceous flavors, eucalyptus, minty. Vegetal.
First mezcal I ever bought. Cheap, rubbery, smokey and industrial smelling. Cocktail mixer only.
DS011-MC. A little harsh on the palate, nose of agave and rubber. I like the flavor, can’t pick out any other notes. Not the best Rey I’ve had, but the best Madre Cuishe so far.
Forgot to get the Lot. All I got from this was stale ashtray and smokers jacket. Not pleasant. Liked everything else from Yuu Baal, so I would try again and just hope it’s a different lot.
Had at La Negrita Cantina in Merida. Smooth, tasty, easy to drink. Wish I could pick out more flavors, but they were light and subtle, which is what I enjoyed about it.
Had at La Negrita Cantina in Merida. A little cheesey, not my favorite flavor profile.
Had at La Negrita Cantina in Merida. Good Mexicano, light smoke fairly smooth.

Wow! So this is what the hype is all about?? This is what people talk about when they speak of the mysterious flavors that can be coaxed out of the agave? Well, then I’m on board. Melon, cantaloupe, watermelon, a little hot and a little sweetness. And then the backend hits you with a tongue tingling minerality, like it’s almost carbonated. Wild stuff.
Lot # YJ01-21
This was decent, definitely liked the higher proof. Smoke was a little more subtle, sweet agave flavor along with some banana.
Didn’t get Lot. For the price I found this to be great. Similar profile to Vida or other entry level mezcals, smokey but not tire fire. Use in cocktails, eat trash, be free.
Lot VID 215 2021/12/16
I sipped this neat a little bit and didn’t mind it, but mostly used it for cocktails. Not a lot of complexity, lots of smoke, short finish and alcohol burn at the end. I would probably buy again to keep around a bottle for cocktails, but there are probably other mezcals at the price point that could offer a little more flavor.
