Batch MJ20-15 237/600 Had high hopes for this one and just seemed to fall flat for me. A little funk on the nose, earthiness in the palate but ultimately lacked enough character to stand out from the rest of the lineup.
Batch XAO14-17 10/890 Spearmint gum, orange peel, bell peppers and a sweet finish.
Light straw color, like a very young reposado. Sweet nose! Cooked agave, eucalyptus, and cocoa. I really enjoy drinking this one.
Nose is hard to pin down – figs, spearmint and sour fruit. I get orange liqueur as mentioned, notes of white pepper and mango.
Sweet, floral nose – orange blossoms and lilac. Subtle, nuanced notes of menthol and white pepper. Stellar.
Clean citrus notes and a sweet nose. Spicy, loads of peppercorn with a bit of a brief finish.
Lot R5001-C from Ramiro Sanchez Altamirano at 52.8% Tropical fruit salad with an easy nose, hiding the heavy AVB. Spicy! Lots of heat, this will wake you right up or keep you warm on a chilly evening.
Nose of overripe bananas, strawberry yogurt and juniper berries, with a touch of astringency. Baking spice, celery citrus and anise on the palate.
A sweet nose of floral notes, dryer sheets and fruit snacks, Molasses, cooked agave on the nose, clean finish, Again, hard to tell its clay pot distilled.
Nose is a little sharp, lemonade and menthol. Green peppers, little to no clay presence.
Very fragrant, Strawberry Bon Bon candies from Grandma’s house and hibiscus. Bell peppers, citrus and white pepper notes.
Nice roast on the nose, moves to a profile of orange peel/citrus notes with mint and roasted greens. Cooked agave, a slight hint of Crème brûlée and white pepper. Finish is moderate and enjoyable, easy sipper with a solid heat.
Light nose of citrus and agave. A simple espadin profile, body felt a little flat and the finish brief.
Sweet tropical fruits, and caramelized sugar. There’s an enjoyable roast that transitions into a kick of white pepper and some green notes poking through.
Bell pepper core, fresh rain water and lemongrass on the nose. Anise, celery leaf and spearmint on the palate. Probably my favorite of the lineup.
Really fragrant and strong nose, fills the whole room up with mossy, damp notes, jolly ranchers and fresh rain. Palate has some notes of malt, citrus and white pepper.
Rubber cement, deep oak barrel and a hint of blueberry. Palate is Basil mint with a zesty finish.
Fresh linen scented candle, candied fruit and a hint of scotch peat on the nose. Buttercream, sweet peppers and nuanced white pepper on the palate. Delicious.
Hay stacks, piles of leaves nail polish remover and rose water. Palate is cardboard, notes of iron and asparagus. Unbelievably unique and I’m totally on board.
Menthol (like medicated lip balm), lemon pine sol, and some acetone. More pine needles on the palate, musty and ethanol – it’s a bit hot. This one is really out there, which I really appreciate and enjoy but could use some refinement.
