Against my preference toward Karwinskii, but give this one the advantage over the Cuixe. Was a tasty tobala.
Generally, I like Madrecuixe and this was fine, but didn’t leave the same mark on me as some of the others I had alongside.
Lovely floral. Amazingly complex with the bite that I like. Maybe its the juice, maybe i’m a sucker for good bottle art, maybe I love Madrecuishe, but this was one of the more memorable tastings I had from Mexico in a Bottle.
Edition 6 from 2014
Heavier hitter from the other espadins I was trying, but tbh I couldn’t stop thinning about the El Jolgorio Madrecuixe I had right before this.
Snake venom and not distributed in the United States. I totally forgot about this one in the mix of all the tastings, but props for being unique, wish I had paid more attention to what that brought to the bottle, but hey… I’m still alive the day after.
Also really liked this. Pretty green, and the highest ABV from Cruz de Fuego.
Going against my Karwinskii instincts. Pretty smooth, not much bite at all, but wasnt my favorite.
Not a ton of notes on this one. Alongside the rest of their lineup liked this one after the Tepeztate and Madrecuishe.
Low key and approachable, not a lot of bite. Advantage to the Mezcal Union Viejo, but this is solid.
Nice contrast from the influx of mexcals I was trying. woody with a nice bite.
I liked this one, not quite as rich and chocolatey as some of the other arroquenos I’ve had.
Did not meet my expectations, not sure if its the right term but it just seemed flat and lacking flavor.
Had the cupreata at home, and needed to give this one a shot. Very nice, different context from what i am used to with Tequiliana.
Been liking the Karwinskiis more and more. Will need to revisit this one.
55% Tobala + 45% Madrecuixe.
Tasty combo of my two favorite agaves.47% Cuixe + 35% Espadin + 18% Tepeztate
Emigdio always my favorite. I’d liked the kick that the Tepeztate and Espadin give these Ensambles, which i think makes it a bit more green than sweet from the Cuixe.
A-2R-E-18 Tepeztate 76%, Espadin 24%
First set of tastings from Mexico in a Bottle – Chicago, yesterday. Very tasty, vago came out on top from all of my tastings.A-10-TCE-17 48% Cuixe + 29% Tepeztate + 23% Espadin
Part of an exploration of Vago.A-12-TSN-17 53% Tepeztate + 47% Sierra Negra.
52.2% Really liked this, nice and spicy with a bit of a bite. Up there with my favorite Ensambles.
