RMA-05 from 2016. Bottle 126/133. Aromas of spearmint, banana bread, and cantaloupe. The palate is incredible. It’s nutty with hints of rawhide and blueberry muffins. A little meaty and thick with notes of leather and mud. Minty finish. Super hard to find this but worth the hunt!
Aromas of sweet agave, sour apples, strawberries, crayons, and ground nuts. Smells more like mezcal than a typical raicilla. The palate is light but leathery, smoky, and bit charred. There’s a charcoal flavor throughout this, like fresh non-burning charcoal.
Batch JB01. Bottle 65/105. So good! Alberto has this signature taste and scent that are just incredible. This one really shines. Aromas of green apples, cherries, raspberries, and freshly cut collard greens. This mezcal transports. Wet and fresh. The palate is amazing. Notes of prunes, dates, black olives, asparagus, and artichoke hearts. This is not a “typical Jabali” but it’s amazing.
Aromas of cinnamon, rhubarb, cane sugar, cherries, and vanilla. The palate is full. Notes of vanilla beans, mint, chocolate, caramel, and some slight nutty flavors. Long finish. Very pleasant.
Lot 0918A. Smells rich and full. Aromas of sour apples, white onions, raspberries, and scallions. The palate is much lighter than the nose and tastes like peanuts through the whole experience. Notes of roasted peanuts, salt, and root vegetables. Very earthy.
Strong aromas of green peppers, salty pickles, and tomatoes. Palate has notes of grilled peppers, jalapeños, steak, ripe tomatoes, and soy sauce. This is peppery and savory. Very good.
Lot 1. Smells like skittles. Very sweet and fruity on the nose. Taste-the-rainbow-type aromas. The palate is less fruity but still carries a bit of tropical punch type flavor. I’m getting notes of leather, mango, papaya, and pineapple. This is really nice. A bit of a burn but not in an unpleasant way. Very balanced and even the whole way through.
Batch from October 2018. Pechuga with Espadin/Tobasiche. Big and wide aromas of peanuts, cashews, clay, and mud. The mouthfeel is buttery and thick. Everything about this mezcal is full and rich. Flavor notes of ground nuts, bananas, brown rice, clarified butter, honey, egg yokes, and guinea fowl. Elegant. Balanced. Rich.
Lot B0009T044719. Sweet aromas of lilac, roses, and fresh pollen on the breeze. Very floral on the nose. The palate is big and full. Notes of poppies, pumpkin seeds, nutmeg, sweet potatoes, and ripe papaya. This tastes dark orange or burnt orange in color. Good viscosity. A little bit of heat on the back of the palate but overall really nice.
GB 275. A bit astringent but pleasant. Very subtle and light on the nose. Hints of green vegetable aromas but not overpowering. Slight yeasty aromas as well. The palate is slightly salty with notes of green bell peppers, green apples, limestone, and spearmint with a caramel finish. Surprisingly minty overall.
Incredible. I’ve had sips from a few different batches and the flavors and complexity seems pretty consistent across them. This is one of the most velvety mezcals I’ve ever tasted. It has this elegant silky cascade over the palate, with rich notes of fresh sweet green agave and minerals. With no smoke, you can really taste the pure agave flavors of this madrecuishe. Some of my favorite mezcals have a gritty exterior that you need to work through in order to get to the rich, more delicate notes. This is not like that. It’s a luxury, delicate experience the whole way through. Definitely one of my favorite madrecuishe mezcals out there.
Clean aromas with hints of green vegetables like lettuce, celery, and broccoli. Tastes of of leather, tobacco, burnt green beans, charred apples, and smoked dates. Soft and bit buttery. This is nice.
Semi-sweet aromas of lemon, lime, and grapefruit. The palate is soft with notes of minerals, chalk, white stone, and limestone on the front of the palate. The finish is long with bits of dark fruit and more minerals. A bit briny.
Very faint aromas of sweet tropical juice. The palate is FULL of mango! Holy smokes. The mango really shines on this. It’s thin, like other vegan pechugas, but I love mango and this totally rocks my world. This is like biting into a ripe mango.
Strong and rich on the nose. Smells great. Aromas of vanilla, peppers, and tomatillos. Palate is a bit sharp but full of flavor. Notes of sweet potato, potato chips, and sour cream with a splash of crumbled bacon on top. This is a little hot. Might need to sit on the shelf for awhile.
Smells off the f-ing charts y’all!!! Like Woah. Straight candy aromas with hints of oranges and lime. The palate is rich and full. Wow! Oranges and velvet and cologne and apples and minerals and vanilla and cream and peppermint and tobacco and flan. This is all over the place and amazing. I ordered a bottle online immediately after my first sip.
Smells like fermenting pineapple, mango, and papaya. This smells more like a brandy its so fruity. The palate has grilled fruits like charred pineapple, stewed apples, cider, apple sauce with cinnamon, and baked summer squash. This is fabulous.
Lote: AR02. From June 2017. Tasted at El Destilado. Dope! Aromas of bananas and lemon. Palate of anise, plantains, and cactus fruit. This is nice but a bit short on the finish.
Lote: ACL02-19 from February 2019. This was a Texas-only batch for Alamo City Liquor in San Antonio. Sweet brown sugar aromas with other scents of vanilla bean, nail polish, and freshly tanned leather. The palate is amazing! More notes of brown sugar, candied yams, sugar daddy candies, caramel apples, and wet fall leaves. Medium finish. Great viscosity.
Sweet vanilla aromas. Also a little sour apple and watermelon scents. Tastes of caramel, chocolate, black licorice, and cherry flavoring. I’m not super interested in Reposado most of the time, but this one is good.
Lot GMT0303 from Nov 2018. Purple aromas of lilac and blue tootsie pops. The palate has green apple, raw potatoes, kale, celery, and broccoli. Good viscosity.
